Karen Bowler

Winnipeg, Manitoba

About Me

Karen was a professor of music for 35 years with the University of Manitoba, a certified Yoga teacher with the Manitoba Fitness Association, and volunteered as a church Worship Coordinator for over 20 years. Her call to spiritual direction and leadership came in 2017 through discernment through doing the Ignatian Exercises, through spiritual direction, prayer, and discussion with her priests and deacons at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, Winnipeg. She pursued spiritual training through the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, completing a yearlong unit of Clinical Pastoral Care working in a congregational setting. She also completed a two-year program for formation as a Spiritual Director through St. Benedict’s Monastery, Winnipeg. Her adult daughter’s unexpected Stage IV cancer diagnosis deepened her desire to support others. Karen still serves at St. Margaret’s as a Lay Reader, preacher, small group leader, and member of the Pastoral Care team. Her personal spiritual practices include contemplative prayer, bible study and worship using the daily office and Anglican Breviary. She is married to Gerry Bowler with grown children and four grandchildren.
