About Me

I earned a BA in Christian Ministry from Providence College (1994) and an MA in Biblical Studies from Providence Theological Seminary (1999). During my two years in the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction (2021-23) I offered some 30 hours of one-on-one direction and completed the 19th annotation of Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises.
Growing up as a “feeling” person in a “doing” church, I was envious of other faiths with their symbols, rhythms, sense of mystery, and belief in transformation. Discovering these pieces within contemplative Christianity was freeing.
I began seeing a nun for spiritual direction in 2013; I was struck by her quiet confidence in God. When she retired in 2018, I found a director within the Imago Dei Christian Community, where I continue to worship.
On a short-term service trip to Europe in 1993, as I was sitting with hurting people and listening to their stories, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice if I could do this as my vocation?” When I came across an announcement regarding spiritual direction training, I recalled that moment; God saw my desire.
I believe unhurried, nonjudgmental listening is the greatest gift we can offer one another and one of the most effective means to spiritual growth. In my 15 years of interviewing leaders for Christian publications, I developed my skills in asking open-ended questions and creating a safe space for the answers.
I have a soft heart for people in pain, having lived through my own grief of miscarriage and sibling loss. I am comfortable with the language and range of emotions surrounding disability, mental health, and caregiving. Drawing on my experiences as a poet, I enjoy sparking directees’ imagination and celebrating their word pictures for God’s activity in their life.
